English and German are taught as foreign languages, and teachers and students are very actively involved in various projects. Children in Slovenia start primary school at the age of 6 and finish it at the age of 15. In Slovenia, the obligatory nine years of elementary school are divided into three-year cycles. In the first class, there are two teachers, one primary and one preschool teacher. In the second (classes 4- 6) and third cycle (classes 7 – 9), there are more and more teachers who are specialized in teaching one subject only. Besides the regular school curriculum, pupils from 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th classes spend a week either in the country, the sea, or in the mountains studying nature, and also developing their physical abilities.
